Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much meat is in 1/2 a steer?

    • Half a steer will get you approximately 180 pounds of finished vacuum sealed meat. 1/4 will get you about 90 pounds of meat. Animals vary in size but this is an accurate estimate.

  • How is the meat packaged?

    • Each cut, roast, or ground beef pack will be in thick vacuum sealed plastic. The packaging stores very well in a freezer.

  • How should I thaw my beef?

    • Never in the microwave. In the fridge the night before or in the vacuum sealed package in a bowl of water if you’re in a hurry.

  • What is included in the price per pound?

    • We include the butcher fee, kill bill and packaging in our price per pound.

  • Why is our beef only offered in the summer and fall?

    • These are the best times to harvest/slaughter beef as they have had access to eat all they want all spring, summer and fall. Grass fed beef is naturally much more lean so we try to time it just right for the best taste.

  • Do you feed your cows anything other than grass/hay?

    • We do not. We have ample space for our herd size and maintain a small herd so that there is plenty of grass to go around.

  • What’s the best way to place an order?

    • Just contact me (Liz Smith) or Aaron. We will be happy to help you and answer any questions.
